Thank you Curtis,
I agree with your idea and suggestions. Everything that has been thrown on the table makes sense. I agree there has to be organization. You and other members of MAC/CSM have the history which some of us may not. What about you heading this committee? Others who knew Von and know her story can be part of this.

It would be nice to take our time, brainstorm, and come up with the best ideas of the events and the scholarship, etc. I would also like to be part of the committee.

If we could come up with some solid ideas we could iron them out at our December mtg.

Want to go for it? I am in the process of moving to another school, so I am including my personal email since I will be cut off UTPA email pretty soon. Please try to incorporate my yahoo email in the communication. Also, I will barely be moving in and staring my new job on the 19 th.

Thanks and let me know what you folks think .
Petra

Since many of us are MAC and CSM members -- and Von was active in both -- this would be an opportunity for a combined effort. The AEJMC board is also considering ways to honor and remember Von. I'd like to serve on such a committee and I think definitely Paula Poindexter should participate since she part of board leadership. i think this would be a good way to come up with a strategic plan. We might come up with a combined effort or agree to honor Von in several ways. I was thinking of a telephone conference later this month, maybe the week of the 12th or 19th.

I think someone had mentioned that there was a scholarship in her name. I am not too sure of what the process would be, but maybe some one else can lead us in the right direction. More comments from other folks would be great. Thanks including George Daniel's piece it is very fine.

It could be a scholarship for a needy graduate student that would help defray costs of the AEJMC conference and a membership to MAC. It could be a scholarship that we could ask for donations for once a year and give to one or two graduate students who apply for it. The PR division has a similar scholarship.

>> Like all of you who I have seen e-mails from, I was deepenly saddened to learn of Von's passing. She was a solid scholar and always made a substantive contribution to MAC,AEJMC, as well as to the academy. While it is late, can't we as an organization--and I am talking about MAC--send flowers to the family? Is that appropriate? Is there a mechanism to do that--don't we have the money to do that? At any rate, that is my suggestion--it may be too late. If it is too late, can we make a donation to a foundation, scholarship (one that she would care about)in Von's name? Given the timing--if not a donation, how about a living memorial to the family, a large house plant, a tree--something?????
