Greetings all! My name is Felicia McGhee-Hilt and I am new to the MAC division. The
last AEJMC convention Boston was my first convention, and I truly enjoyed meeting so
many of you.

However, now I am asking for your help. I have an idea for a panel, and am looking for
potential panelists. My research area is on the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and the panel
would examine how events during the Civil Rights Movement were covered in the media.

Panel Description (A sincere thanks goes to Ilia who rewrote the description.)

Description of Panel : The Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's and its aftermath not only
marked a pivotal moment in our nation's history, but also influenced how media
constructed images and discourses on racial relations. The purpose of this panel is to
look at specific incidents during the movement and to discuss 1) coverage in the
mainstream, black, and other minority press, and 2) how did the movement influence and
was influenced by media practices. For example, panel members would include scholars
who have researched media coverage of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the Selma to
Montgomery March, the Little Rock, Arkansas school integration, etc. The panel would
also include discussion of how media coverage affected the course of events and how the
movement itself influenced media practices for covering issues related to race and
cultural difference.

If you would be interested in serving on this panel as a panelist or as a moderator, please
let me know. Again, thanks so much for your time. Have a great day!
