Thanks for update Sybril, I was actually interviewed yesterday (thurs) by a print journalist for my opinion on this, the usage/nonusage of color/race in stories regarding the hurricane aftermath. I didnt expect a call way up here in New England about the hurricane, but reporters are contacting professors who study ethnicity/race issues and media. Diana Rios UConn

Greetings from Music City, USA.  I was listening to our local National
Public Radio affiliate this morning and heard a Professor discussing the
White Flight that left New Orleans predominantly Black and poverty
stricken.  Unfortunately, America has a history of allowing race and
class to influence decisions.  This isn't the time to be petty or
premature. However, it is critical that scholars with knowledge make
their presence and availability known to the media. They are clamoring
for people to interview.

So if you are knowledgeable on this plight and media savvy, please way
in on the discussion.  Leave emotions at the door. Go straight
empirical, there is a substantial body or literature to add to a better
understanding of why so many were left behind.

Ironically, FOX News has given the most complete picture of the tragedy.
For example, they have explained that many people didn't leave because
they couldn't NOT because they wanted to stay.

Also, are there any experts on mass evacuations who can address why the
city did not bus their poor people out or those in the hospital before
the Hurricane struck?

Be deliberate in your responses.  You can e-mail or call major news
outlets and they will hear your remarks.
