POSITION:       Interim Director, Student Publications Inc., Kansas State University
                Assistant Professor, A.Q. Miller School of Journalism & Mass    Communications

                June 2004 to July 2005

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in journalism or related field. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree and extensive professional experience may be considered. Experience in commercial newspaper editing and management or in management of student publications and student media. Ability to work well with students. Ability and experience working with diverse groups of people. Experience in publishing, reporting, editing, and design. Master’s degree in journalism or related field preferred; bachelor’s degree minimum.

DESCRIPTION:    This is a temporary position for approximately 13 months pending a full national search to be conducted in the 2004-2005 academic year. An interim director will be eligible to apply for the regular position as part of the national search.
        The position is a joint administrative/academic appointment.

POSITION DUTIES:

Editorial adviser to the Collegian, student staffed campus newspaper.
Chief executive officer of Student Publications Inc., which publishes the newspaper, the Royal Purple yearbook, and the Kansas State University Campus Phone Book. As CEO, the director is responsible for financial management, equipment and facilities management and planning, and supervision of personnel matters for a permanent staff of five and student staff of more than 120 each semester. The director serves as the chief representative of the corporation both on campus and off campus, and as liaison to other offices and programs. Student Publications Inc. operates as a quasi-independent local agencyothers include the union and athleticswith policy set by a board of directors consisting of five elected students, two faculty members appointed by the university president, a news professional, and the director of the A.Q. Miller School, who serves as board chair.

Teach at least one course per regular semester in the A.Q. Miller School and serve on school committees. 

Coordinate the financial management of other scholastic journalism activities and programs sponsored by the corporation. 

SALARY: Highly competitive, depending upon experience and qualifications.
