Dear all,

I was not able to respond to the emails a few weeks ago when the issue regarding the use of the MAC listserv arose. My university has had problems lately with viruses blocking external emails, so there has been a back log.

To address this topic, as it has come up again: I understand the frustration of those who do not like getting the many listserv emails, but this has been the culture of MAC for many years - using our listserv regularly for communication on various topics. While we do have a Facebook page and Twitter account, we've used the listserv method more.

For those folks who would like to have their names removed, we certainly understand. Please let Meta Carstarphen know asap at [log in to unmask] or you can email me: [log in to unmask] Right now, all new members joining MAC are added to the listserv, as we heard from a number of members last year who said they did not receive regular communication.

In the future, we hope to have an option for members to select whether they would like to be added or not.

If you would like to further discuss, please contact me. I will also add this topic to our business meeting agenda.

Sincerely,
Frances

Hi there,

I disagree with this sentiment. I believe that issues that may be pertinent to the club could be grouped into something like a weekly newsletter; in my opinion, this would be the most appropriate use of the listserv. Otherwise, the back-and-forth among fellow members will fill all of our mailboxes up and it may deter people from actually reading these correspondences. Thank you!

Dwight - good luck in your pursuit of leading AEJMC, though! You seem like a really nice guy and a very capable leader :)

I also think we need more, not less communication. So at the risk of alienating some even more, I have to say publically how much I appreciate those of you who supported me (again) in my second consecutive unsuccessful attempt to lead AEJMC. I will continue to serve AEJMC, MAC, and as many important initiatives that my time and schedule allows such as the Institute for Diversity.

>> The good point about this year's election is that we had lots of diversity on the ballot - more than I can remember from the past. I agree with Meta that we must continue[https://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png] to "toss our hats in the ring." For the MAC business meeting in San Francisco, I am putting on the agenda, a discussion about election processes, strategies and representation. Let me know if you have additional agenda items.
>>
>>
>> On a related note, one of the format changes we plan to try for this year's MAC research paper[https://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png] awards is to present the awards during the paper session rather than at the business meeting. Paper winners will receive the awards at the end of the paper session in which they present. The reason for this change is to allow more time for discussion at the division meeting as members have mentioned they would like to delve into more topics, but we seem to run out of time each year.
