Colleagues:
We need to go further than approaching the White House about this matter. Why do we merely jump on the reactions from the government instead of focusing on the organizations that distorted the story to inflame the ideas about Ms. Sherrod? That is where our efforts belong, especially since the organizations are news organizations and we teach journalism and prepare journalists for careers in such organizations. What are we teaching our students?

Colleagues:
As I hope many of you have already done I signed and submitted the petition
that Federico circulated earlier this morning in the hope that the
government will correct the miscarriage of justice in which a Federal
official was accused, charged, judged, sentenced and punished without an
opportunity to face her accuser, answer the charges, or provide a defense.
Doesn't sound like "liberty and justice for all."
As journalism educators we should also focus our attention on Fox News to
help the public understand the role it is playing under the guise of news in
the free marketplace of ideas. Like most First Amendment supporters, I
don't feel that I need to agree with everything they broadcast. But to
clarify its role the organization should change its name from Fox News to
Fox Views.
