Good morning,

I would like to submit the following call for book chapters. Thank you so much

Monica Flippin Wynn, PhD
Jackson State University

CALL FOR BOOK CHAPTERS

Proposed Title(s): Teaching at Historically Black Colleges and Universities: Still Relevant, Still Indispensable and Still Beleaguered

This volume will be a collection of scholarly essays dedicated to the highs and lows of teaching at historically Black colleges or universities in the 21st century. This anthology will provide an opportunity to share experiences, commiserate with colleagues and appreciate the commonalities of teaching that are familiar throughout all academia. As many continue to question the relevance and necessity of the HBCU in the 21st century, this book will provide some insight on their continued significance.

Current and previous educators at Historically Black Colleges and Universities are invited to submit abstracts/or completed manuscripts for this edited volume. Chapter submissions may focus on any number of topics for this collection with the goal of providing provocative, genuine and realistic accounts for current and future students, faculty and other educators. Possible topic areas for consideration include (but are not limited to):
· Joy, Pain, & final submission

· Can't we all just get along?

· Academics remain a top priority

· Collaborations across disciplines

· Is the grass greener at other institutions?

· Everything I needed to learn about teaching, I learned at an HBCU

· Diversity often forgotten

· Why study race at an HBCU?

· Student engagement at the crossroads

· Teaching, Technology and Multitasking

· One student's progress is a family affair

· Choosing to teach at a Historically Black College/University

· I really can make a difference

· All this and publishing too

· I may need a second job

· Expectations

· Everything must and should change

· I really had no idea what I was getting into

· My curriculum includes Aristotle and JayZ

· Mentoring from the heart

· Why we teach at Historically Black Colleges and Universities

Initial abstracts should be limited to 400 words plus a brief biography, which should include your HBCU association. Materials should be submitted in either word or pdf format. The deadline for initial abstracts is January 21, 2012. Please forward your submission to Monica Flippin Wynn @ [log in to unmask] Information pertaining to final deadlines will be available upon proposal acceptance. Questions and concerns can also be forwarded to [log in to unmask] Thank you.
