Texas State University-San Marcos. Interdisciplinary position to teach digital and visual media courses and application of the skills to creative new media advertising. The ideal candidate will embrace a global perspective, cultural diversity, and an understanding of the new digital age. Tenure track position teaching up to three courses per semester and conducting research. The individual will teach primarily in San Marcos, but may be asked to teach at the Round Rock Higher Education Center or in San Antonio from time to time. A program of sustained, focused research or creative activity is an important component of this position. The successful candidate must be able to show that she or he either has begun and sustained a scholarly or creative program or is capable of doing so.
 
Texas State University-San Marcos has 32,500 students and is located near Austin and San Antonio on the edge of the Texas Hill Country. The School of Journalism and Mass Communication has 1,650 majors and offers BA and MA degrees.
 
Required qualifications:
1)    Terminal degree in mass communication or a related field;  
2)    Ability to teach advertising, online advertising and social marketing at the undergraduate and graduate levels..
3)    Have or show evidence of capability to develop a program of sustained scholarship or creative activity.
 
Preferred qualifications:
1)    Prior teaching experience
2)    Ability to teach some combination of the following courses:
a.    Introduction to advertising
b.    Advertising design (portfolio)
c.    Web design publishing
d.    Media design
e.    Introduction to multimedia
f.     Visual communication
g.    Visual storytelling
3)    Professional experience in media or marketing.
4)    Knowledge about or experience with multicultural populations or ethnic-oriented media is a plus.
