Arkansas State University

Position:     Assistant professor of journalism.

Employment Date:  August 11, 2008.

Duties:  Teach visual communication and design, and digital journalism
or print journalism; produce research and or creative activity, advise
students and engage in general service to the department, college,
university and profession.

Qualifications:  Doctorate in appropriate area and professional
experience or master's degree and 3-5 years of professional experience.

General Information:  The department offers a bachelor of science in
journalism with emphases in news editorial, photojournalism, advertising
and public relations as well as a bachelor of science in graphic
communication.  It is part of an AEJMC-accredited unit that has been
accredited since 1979.  With more than 10,900 students, the university
occupies 800 acres amid the hills of Crowley's Ridge.  Our 450 faculty
members guide students through academic programs in nine colleges, one
independent department and a graduate school.  ASU offers associate,
baccalaureate, master, specialist and doctoral degrees.  The university
offers special opportunities for superior students through its Honors
College for which a new residence life facility is in process.  The
campus enjoys a rich and varied cultural life centered about its museum,
two art galleries, a theater and a recital hall.  The campus is in the
middle of a major building program.

The Community:  Jonesboro is a city of more than 65,000 in the northeast
corner of the state.  Memphis, Tenn., is approximately one hour's drive
to the southeast; Little Rock, the state capital, is about two hours to
the southwest.  Jonesboro occupies a plateau between the fertile
Mississippi River Valley and the scenic beauty of the Ozark Mountains.
Excellent highways serve the city, passing through rich farmlands and
areas endowed with forests, lakes and streams.  Scheduled air service to
and from Memphis, shuttle services and bus lines make Jonesboro a
convenient spot to reach.  Long known for its agricultural production,
the Jonesboro area has become a center for cultural, educational,
industrial, commercial and medical interests.  Residents may choose from
a number of restaurants, theaters and shopping areas including a major
mall less than two years old.  Recreational areas activities range from
hunting and fishing to symphonies and theatrical productions.  The
university competes in the highest division of NCAA athletics.  In
addition to Arkansas State University, the Jonesboro area's educational
facilities include excellent public elementary and secondary school
