Admission to the JPRNM Graduate Program
Required Materials

Applications for Baylor's graduate school may be submitted through the graduate school website<http://www.baylor.edu/journalism/%E2%80%9Dhttps://www.baylor.edu/graduate/gobaylor/index.php?id=99642%94>.

Application to the JPRNM graduate school requires the following additional items:

  *   Academic/scholarly writing sample
  *   Graduate Record Exam (GRE)general test (less than five years old)
  *   Official online application with personal statement
  *   Official transcripts of all college/university work
  *   Three letters of recommendation

The minimum requirements for consideration by the JPRNM department include an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or higher, a GRE score of at least 151 on the verbal section, 147 on the quantitative section and 3.9 on the analytical writing section.

International students are required to submit either TOFEL or IELTS scores unless they have received a degree from a U.S. accredited institution of higher education.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

If you are admitted before you receive your degree and final transcript, you are required to provide an official, final transcript with proof of conferred degree to the graduate school by the first day of class, or a hold will be placed on your registration.

Graduate Assistantships

Many entering graduate students receive some type of graduate stipend, tuition remission or funding from other resources for their education at Baylor University. Examples of such sources include work-study programs, Stafford loans, private scholarships and private loans. The Department of JPRNM funds multiple graduate assistantships for the academic year (August - May) depending upon annual budgetary allocations. These assistantships are awarded on a highly competitive basis. Graduate assistants participate in research, grading and teaching. Students awarded graduate assistantships receive a stipend for the academic year and receive a tuition scholarship for up to 18 hours of graduate coursework. Any unused graduate tuition scholarship hours are forfeited at the conclusion of the spring semester.
