Journalism
 
Tenure-track position in journalism, at the rank of Assistant Professor, to
begin August 2008. 

We are looking for a creative, energetic colleague who will teach a
combination of journalistic skills and conceptual courses about journalistic
practice. Courses could include: introduction to journalism, news writing,
online journalism, journalism history, global journalism, web
writing/production, and specialty courses. There is also an opportunity to
work with students in a graduate program in Corporate and Public
Communication.  Classes are held in the state-of-the art Jules L. Plangere,
Jr. Center for Communication and Instructional Technology, which also houses
the student newspaper, radio station, and TV studio.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in journalism or a related field preferred.
Significant professional journalism practice, student centered college
teaching, and experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
desired. The ideal candidate will share our commitment to teaching and
advising; be actively engaged in research and scholarship; and welcome the
opportunity to participate in the life of the department and the university.
 
Monmouth University is an independent non-sectarian undergraduate and
graduate institution.  The University has over 270 full-time faculty and
more than 50 degree programs serving 6,000 students.  Monmouth is located in
the media rich central New Jersey coastal area within 1 and 1Ž2 hours of
Manhattan and downtown Philadelphia. The Department of Communication is a
dynamic growing department with more than 20 faculty serving 600
undergraduate majors and 40 graduate students with an MA in Corporate and
Public Communication.  It is a collegial department with small class size
and the reputation of giving personal attention to students.
 
Application procedure includes submission of a letter of application, vitae,
sample syllabi and evidence of teaching effectiveness, samples of
professional and scholarly work, and three letters of reference. Review of
application files will begin November 15, 2007, and continue until the
position is filled.
